Bankim Chandra Chatterjee (Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay) an Indian novelist, poet, journalist.

He got the titles ‘Sahitya Samrat’, ‘Rai Bahadur’. Founder of Bengali literary magazine ‘Bangadarshan’. Pioneer of modern Bengali literature. Composer of national song of India ‘Vande Mataram’.

He was made a Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire (CIE) by the British government. His notable works include the novel Anandamath (1882), which inspired nationalists during the struggle against British rule.
