East Pakistan renamed itself Bangladesh.
East Bengal was renamed East Pakistan in 1955, and in December 1971 declared independence from Pakistan and the new country changed its name to Bangladesh on January 11, 1972 and became a parliamentary democratic country (Peoples’ Republic) under its constitution.
