Copy of International Astronomy Day (Spring)

International Astronomy Day is celebrated twice a year – once in the spring and once in the fall.

It was founded in 1973 by Doug Berger, then president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California.

His idea was to set up telescopes in busy public places (like city streets and parks) so that everyone could look at the night sky, not just people who visited observatories.

The celebration is meant to bring astronomy to the public, encouraging interest in space science, stargazing, and our place in the universe.
