On 15 Februay 2007, Infotel Broadband Services Private Limited (IBSL) was founded by Anant Nahata.

In 2010, Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, acquired a 95% stake in IBSL for about ₹4,800 crore.

On 19 July 2010, IBSL ceased to be a private limited company and became a public limited company.

On January 22, 2013, the company was renamed Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited.

On 5 September 2016, The Jio brand was launched to the public, transforming India’s telecom sector.
