Rajya Sabha was constituted in the name of ‘Council of States’ for the first time.
The Council of States was constituted on 3 April 1952. Its Hindi equivalent as Rajya Sabha was adopted on 23 August 1954. As a permanent House, Rajya Sabha has special significance in the parliamentary, constitutional and federal setup of India.
