Hindi Journalism Day – India

Hindi Journalism Day, also known as Hindi Patrakarita Diwas, is celebrated annually on May 30 in India.

It is to commemorate the publication of the first Hindi-language newspaper, Udant Martand, on May 30, 1826, in Kolkata.
Edited and published by Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla, this weekly newspaper marked the beginning of Hindi journalism in India, using the Devanagari script and a blend of Khari Boli and Braj Bhasha dialects. It played a significant role in spreading awareness during India’s freedom struggle and making news accessible to Hindi-speaking communities, empowering them with information in their native language.
