British Indian Army was established in India.

The British Indian Army, officially called simply the Indian Army (IA), was the army in British India during British rule (1858–1947). It consisted of Indian soldiers (sepoys) led by British officers. On 15 January 1949 field marshal K. M. Cariappa became the first Indian Army Chief, so Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year.
