Sharan Rani Backliwal (SharaRani Mathur) an Indian classical musician, music scholar.

Popularly Known as Sarod Rani. Sangeet Natak Akademi Award recipient. Lifetime Achievement award recipient. First woman to professionally play the sarod, breaking gender barriers in Hindustani classical music. First woman musician to be awarded the title of ‘National Artist’ from govt. of India.

Her private collection of 379 musical instruments from the 15th to the 19th centuries is now part of the “Sharan Rani Backliwal Musical Instruments Gallery” at the National Museum, New Delhi.
